Here, the roadway runs in an almost straight line to a ridge where it curves away, and a safari vehicle recedes along it, seen from behind, reduced to a silhouette. All around, the tall grasses blonded by the dry season, the acacias and dark shrubs compose a chequerboard of greens and golds; above, a milky sky, charged with a warm, diffuse light, gently presses down on the scene. The rigorously symmetrical composition makes the road an axis that draws the gaze in \u2014 and the vehicle, placed at the centre, becomes the human vanishing point of this immense landscape.
